Bear Awareness

Our Bear Awareness course is behaviour based, with participants learning how the observed bear behaviour should inform our response to encounters.  The 3-5 hour session includes an introduction to black and grizzly bear biology, a comprehensive review of bear behaviour, and how to deal with defensive, non-defensive and predatory encounters. There is a practicum, where participants deploy inert training bear spray to familiarize themselves with this tool, and learn how to use it effectively, as well as carry, store and transport it. Other deterrents discussed in the course are also made available. General wildlife awareness and encounter topics can be added in at request.
